INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Tropical Ecosystems: Costa Rica
Spring Break 2017 | Study Abroad Program
Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. On this trip, I actively worked with natural resource management, agricultural practices, and ecotourism programs in Costa Rica all with a sustainability conscious. I fully engulfed in the rich, local culture and learned about the natural resources of the area and how the country plans and manages those resources to benefit both the citizens and environment.
Wildlife Conservation: Amazon Rainforest
Summer 2016 | Volunteering in Perú
Manu Learning Center (MLC) is located in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest and was where I spent my time working with Crees Foundation. The work I conducted at MLC supported conservation of primary forest and rebuilding secondary forest to restore the biodiversity that has disappeared due to logging, farming, mining and other forms of human invasion. The work I did revolved around empowering the local people and discovering new sustainable methods that will benefit both the locals as well as the environment. Some of my everyday tasks included aiding interns with their research projects, conducting surveys of wildlife including butterflies, macaws, animal prints, and plants, visiting local communities and helping them with their biogardens.
